Richard is a partner in the corporate/commercial department in L'Estrange & Brett. He joined the firm in 1992 having spent a number of years working with Cameron Markby Hewitt (now CMS Cameron McKenna) in London, and became a partner in 1996. His main areas of practice are in corporate, banking and projects work. He also advises a number of clients in relation to competition matters.

Richard has also worked as course adviser and tutor at the Institute of Professional Legal Studies in Belfast in the area of company law. He is a member of the Law Societies of Northern Ireland and of England and Wales.

Richard was named as a 'leader in the field' for banking and finance, corporate finance and PFI/PPP in Chambers UK Guide to the Legal Profession 2008. The Guide refers to him as a 'great banking lawyer and corporate practitioner who gets deals done'; having a 'brilliant understanding of our business and is aware that time is at a premium' and 'commercial and practical.'

Richard is married with four children.
