1. Ulster Community and Hospitals Trust
The firm successfully tendered and were appointed to advise the Ulster Community and Hospitals Trust on its £230m PPP scheme to redevelop the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald. The appointment, in conjunction with Addleshaw Goddard, is the third major advisory role to be won by the firm in the health PPP Sector. The project is currently on hold following devolution in Northern Ireland.

2. Belfast Education & Library Board Strategic Partnership PPP Project: capital value up to £500m
The firm successfully tendered to advise the SIB and Belfast Education and Library Board on the UK's largest education PPP to date, a project to cover all 85 schools in the Board's estate in Belfast with a value up to £500m. The project has similarities with an English scheme (Building Schools for the Future) and is the first such scheme of its kind in Ireland. The project is currently at bid stage and has attracted much interest with GB bidders. The project is due to sign in early 2008.

3. Roads: DBFO II
Following a successful tender and interview process, the firm are currently advising a consortium comprising major local corporate the Lagan Group, Amey and its parent Ferrovial on the second of two roads projects to be brought to the market in Northern Ireland.

4. Health: PPP, new hospitals in Enniksillen and Omagh: capital value £350-400m
The firm has been appointed along with Bevan Brittan to advise on the procurement of two new hospitals in Northern Ireland. The assignment also involves drafting the standard form PPP/PFI contract for Northern Ireland's health sector.

5. Northwin: Current Bids
Current bids include:

  • Derry Diocese PPP - the firm is currently advising the Northwin Consortium
    on its bid for the construction of two new schools in Londonderry for 825
    pupils;

  • East Down and Lisburn Institutes PPP - currently advising EDLEP on its
    bid for this project which has a capital value of approximately £40million.
    There will be two separate contracts, one for each Institute;

  • BIFHE City Centre PPP - currently advising Northwin on this Project for
    the replacement of existing accommodation at campuses in Brunswick Street
    and College Square East. The capital value is approximately £42 million;

  • Coleraine College - currently advising the Northwin Consortium on its bid
    for this significant PPP project; and

  • Lagan College and Tor Bank School - currently advising the Northwin Consortium
    in connection with its bid for this bundled project. The project incorporates
    a new school for Tor Bank and the extension and refurbishment of Lagan College.

6. Viridian Group plc/Sx3: Classroom 2000 Lot 3 PPP Project Classroom 2000: Lot 6
The firm advised the successful bidder Sx3 and its parent company Viridian Group plc in relation to this project for the provision (over a five to seven year period) of IT hardware and services at over 280 schools in Northern Ireland controlled by five Education and Library Boards. Financial close was achieved in 2004.

The Project is the largest IT PPP Project in Northern Ireland to date and has received widespread media coverage given the successful completion of the roll-out phase to all schools.

Viridian sold Sx3 to Northgate Information Solutions UK Limited and the firm has been retained to advise on Lot 6 of Classroom 2000. Northgate is the preferred bidder in that project.

7. Building Schools for the Future: Bristol Pathfinder
Northgate plc/Sx3 instructed the firm to advise it on its involvement on the first BSF pathfinder scheme in Bristol. The BSF scheme is a £22billion investment in education in GB by the Government and the first pilot scheme is currently at bid stage in Bristol. Northgate were part of the HBG consortium hoping to secure the preferred bidder appointment in October 2005. The firm was chosen to advise on this high profile scheme due to its knowledge (from its public sector role) on the Northern Irish equivalent BSF scheme (Belfast Schools, see para 1 above). The Bristol scheme signed in September 2006 and the firm is currently advising Northgate/SX3 on its successful bid for the Leicester BSF Scheme.

8. Water Service: 2 PPPs (clean/waste water), capital value £250m
The firm tendered along with Dundas and Wilson to advise the Water Service in Northern Ireland on the procurement of two major PPPs in the water and waste water sector.

9. Belfast Courts Refinancing
The firm was appointed as advisers to J.H. Turkington & Sons Limited and Karl Construction Limited on the purchase of the former Jarvis plc shareholding in the Laganside Courts Complex, Belfast and the subsequent associated refinancing. This was the first PFI project to be refinanced in Northern Ireland and completed in July 2005. In addition, the firm advised on the purchase by Consul Services FM Limited (which is owned 50:50 by J.H. Turkington & Sons Limited and Karl Construction Limited) from Jarvis plc of the Facilities Management Agreement for the provision of certain services at the Laganside Courts Complex, Belfast as part of the Belfast Courts Project.
